Greetings fellow Saabers!
Now is the time to prepare your super-swedes for autumn! Do you have fresh
winter weight oil in your SAAB? Are your Hakkapeliittas full of
tread? Has your coolant been changed in the past three years, and is it
good to -40 F?
Meyer Garage's Open Houses were
awesome! Thanks to Marty and Annette for a couple of fun excuses to get
the old SAABs out! We trust that the Iowa City location will continue to
prove to be successful, and let's push for another 40 strong years!
Last month's meeting was very
interesting and informative as we learned about the basics on how to navigate
your SAAB 340 passenger turbo-prop or Viggen through the friendly skies above
from our 20+ year member, Max Levine. Thanks Max! For this month's
meeting, we will be watching two really cool SAAB videos from the past.
The first will be a 50 minute video on the history of SAAB as originally
broadcast on "The History Channel" about ten years ago. The second video
runs about 25 minutes, and is entitled, "Masters of the Wheel", and is vintage
footage of Erik 'On-the-Roof' Carlsson and others wielding the mighty steering
wheel of 92s, 93s, and 96s. . . .
Mississippi River SAAB
Tour
Next
Saturday, October 9th is the latest version of the Mississippi River Saab
Tour! Peak or near-peak fall colors will be your canvas as we tour
some of the best roads for scenery, fall colors, and driving fun in the
upper Midwest.
We'll reprise a previous spring tour route (with a few
new twists and turns) starting at Pikes Peak State Park near McGregor, Iowa
(northeast Iowa, across the Mississippi and a few miles south of Prairie du
Chien, Wisconsin) and finish Saturday afternoon at Grandad's Bluff,
overlooking the city of LaCrosse, WI. We'll start meeting at Pikes
Peak at 10:00 a.m., and start touring at 11:30 a.m. A route map is
ready for emailing. On-tour
communication will be on FRS channel 1 (no privacy tones) , and I'll be
monitoring that channel before the tour. No radio? No
problem.
Loaner FRS
radios will be available for use on the tour! Can't make it? Know
somebody else who wants to join in? Let 'em know!
Saturday
morning, October 16th, we will have our regular fall adopt-a-highway
cleanup for the Minnesota SAAB
Club's stretch of highway near the intersection of highways 52 south and hwy 56
near Hampton, MN. The gang will meet up at "Little Oscar's Restaurant",
located in highway 52 in Hampton, at 8 AM for a FREE breakfast before the cleanup! The cleanup will last between 1-2 hours,
depending on how many show up, so come on! Now's your chance to help
the environment and get your exercise all at the same time!
