MINNESOTA SAAB CLUB
NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2002
Hello
everybody! I hope that everyone has been enjoying this wonderful summer
season thus far. Everyone has their air conditioning working in top shape
right? Many of us have just returned from what was certainly one of the
best national SAAB owners conventions of all times! If you have never
quite committed to going to a national event but have always been intrigued,
plan on going next year, as you certainly won't regret it! (Even if your
car gets really hot) : )
I would like
to announce that as the result of a joint effort and our close ties between
both the Minnesota and Iowa SAAB clubs, we won the "Attendance Challenge" for
the national SAAB Owners Convention for 2002! Congratulations to everyone
that drove all the way down to Cincinnati (especially in those strokers) to show
their support and partake in all the fun activities. This is a true
testament to what SAAB ownership can inspire, and what our club is all
about!
The program
for this month will be a double header! We will first hear from Chuck
Andrews about all of the exciting details from the convention this past weekend
in Cinci including a myriad of great photos of the great cars and people that
were there. (Someone please contact me if you have a Powerpoint
setup you can bring to the meeting) Following Chuck will be a
British fellow by the name of Ray Middleton who will give us a quick
rundown on his role in the recent events surrounding the Fairey Firefly that
just won first place at the international airshow in Osh Kosh,
Wisconsin. Ray is also a SAAB owner and enthusiast, and is friends
with our world class SAAB rally champion Erik Carlsson. There
may also be a possibility of a private showing of what used to be an aviation
museum in Anoka this weekend for our own SAAB enthusiasts. More details at
the meeting.
Does everyone
have their logos ready for
presentation? We will be deciding on a grille badge and sticker design for
the Minnesota club in the next month or two. Recent information indicates
that grille badges can be produced for up to 1/3 the originally anticipated
price! If this all pans out, there is no reason why we can't have
both. : )
There may also be some goodies
dispersed amongst all those who attend the meeting Thursday night which
originated in Sweden! Has everyone paid their
dues?
Don't forget
to bring your SAAB photos for Jason Erickson to put on the club website.
We would all love to see what you have been up to recently on your
SAAB! Also, let me know of any SAAB events you know of that are coming up
in the near future so that we can make sure we all know what's to come.
Our friends down at the Meyer Garage will not be having their annual open
house in September due to being so incredibly busy, and with the launch of the
new generation 9-3. There will however, be an event held at Meyer
Garage, most likely in October, to celebrate the latest and greatest
addition to the marque of SAAB. Details to be announced at a future
date.
